Marking monsters is part of the every tanking experience be it 5 mans, 10 mans or 25 mans the majority of the time as a tank your going to be marking and explaining your marks. There are somethings to take into consideration when marking.

1. Are your marks clear and easily understood, the last thing you want is someone saying after a wiped pull “what was i doing again?”. There are a couple of solutions to get over this, firstly don’t change marks after you’ve set them. You have 8 marks at your disposal use them. For a standard 5 man set up of a tank, healer, rogue, mage and warlock you can set the marks as the following. Skull and Cross tanking targets, circle is sheep, star is sap and diamond is banish or fear chain.
   

   Setting up macro’s for telling people the targets helps and prevents confusion, saying it over a voice chat system can sometimes leave the person your talking to unaware. Macroing your marks means they can quickly be changed and displayed without hassle.

Welcome to the first off hopefully many blog posts, we’ll have to see how good i am at it. As you’ll note the title of this particular post has nothing to do with content of blog at the moment, i thought i would take this first post to introduce myself. My name is Darius Aliabadi or Aughban of Frostmane EU . I’m currently one of the main tanks in the guild Asylum, we are currently 4/5 MH, 2/9 BT. I’ve been a tank for a while, i only really got into the end game scene in tbc so you won’t find me talking about the glory days of WoW. I was infact one of those MMORPG gamers (yes i am a veteran by any standard, but thats nothing to do with this) that vowed never to play WoW, yeah so..

I wouldn’t consider myself an expert of tanking, i know my class dynamics, i understand how to tank and tank well and I’m well versed in using addons to increase my TPS and survivability. My personal creed for tanking is to use every advantage possible to do the job well, so yes i’ll use every addon that will make me a better tank, every tool to analyse my performance and every consumable i can get my hands on to get the job done. Infact i’ve never had more than 2k gold since I dinged 70 and respecced prot. Many tanks think its wasteful but even on a badge run off SSC i’ll make use of consumables, infact i don’t ever do a 5 man without an Elixir of Major Fortitude.

This blog is going to be a spam ground of my tanking ideas and general tips on tanking encounters in WoW, i’ve got alot of experience in Kara, ZA, Gruul, Maggy, SSC and TK and every reset i gain more experience in MH / BT. I haven’t actually been to BT yet, i have had some irl stuff on during BT raids and yes of course some items i’ve wanted have dropped. You’ll notice there are pages for addons, yes I will be reviewing addons and I am an addon author in the making.

Lets take a quick digression, as you’ve seen above I will rant a bit and have a bit of a god complex sometimes, i do a good job as a tank and I know it. I’m here to share and I’m not looking to shove it in anyone’s face. I’m far from perfect but I want to offer some help and advice.
